Accessibility Statement

We believe everyone should be able to use our website and booking engine, regardless of ability. Accessibility is not just a compliance requirement — it improves the experience for every guest.

We work continuously to ensure our website and booking engine meet the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

This statement applies to the hotel's website and the booking engine used to complete reservations.

Our approach

Accessibility is owned jointly by the hotel, Nordic Hotels & Resorts, and our platform providers. Our work includes automated testing, continuous review and user testing to identify and address issues on an ongoing basis.

Compliance status

Our website and booking engine partially meet the requirements of WCAG 2.1 Level AA. A full audit has been completed against 96 accessibility criteria based on the Swedish Public Employment Service's accessibility checklist.

Summary of accessibility status

  • Of 96 criteria, 65 (67.7%) are fully met and 16 (16.7%) are partially met.
  • Only 3 criteria (3.1%) are not met, all at WCAG Level A.
  • At the EU directive's target level (WCAG 2.1 AA), no hard non-compliance issues remain — only areas of ongoing improvement.

Known issues in the booking engine

The booking engine used to complete reservations across all Nordic Hotels & Resorts websites has the following known issues. These are part of ongoing improvement work and are maintained centrally.

For users with visual impairments and/or reduced colour vision

  • The homepage is missing an <h1> heading, making it difficult for screen reader users to identify the page's main topic. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)
  • Several images within promotional offer links and destination cards use empty alt attributes, meaning the content they convey is not described to screen reader users. (WCAG 1.1.1)
  • A number of elements use role="presentation" or role="none" inside interactive links, which may cause assistive technologies to ignore meaningful structural information. (WCAG 4.1.2)

For users with motor impairments

  • There is no skip-to-content link, requiring keyboard users to tab through the full navigation on every page load. (WCAG 2.4.1)
  • The destination search field has autocomplete disabled, which prevents browsers and assistive technologies from offering auto-fill suggestions. (WCAG 1.3.5)

For users with cognitive difficulties

  • The homepage lacks a visible <h1> heading, making it harder to understand the page's purpose at a glance. (WCAG 2.4.6)
  • The hotel listing page contains a large number of interactive elements and the page heading appears multiple times at different heading levels, creating a confusing structure. (WCAG 1.3.1, 2.4.6)

Known issues on the hotel website

The following issues have been identified through an audit of our website and are part of our ongoing improvement work.

Items not yet met

  • A skip-to-content link is missing on the website. Keyboard users must tab through the full navigation on every page load. Implementation is on the development backlog. (WCAG 2.4.1, Level A)
  • Information about required fields is not automatically prefaced in forms with text describing how mandatory fields are marked. (WCAG 3.3.2, Level A)
  • A consolidated error summary is not shown — when a form contains multiple errors, a combined list is not presented at the top of the form. (WCAG 3.3.1, Level A)

For users with visual impairments and/or reduced colour vision

  • Some interactive icons — such as the mobile navigation menu icon ("hamburger") and social media icons — lack text labels to complement colour and shape. (WCAG 1.4.1, Level A)
  • Text contrast against background may in some cases fall below 4.5:1, particularly in specific brand colour combinations or against background imagery. (WCAG 1.4.3, Level AA)
  • Contrast ratios for component states (e.g. focus and hover states) are not fully verified against the 3:1 requirement for all design variants. (WCAG 1.4.11, Level AA)
  • Icon contrast has not been fully verified across all brand colour combinations. (WCAG 1.4.11, Level AA)

For users with motor impairments

  • Keyboard traps may occur in isolated cases during button interactions. A review of all edge cases is in progress. (WCAG 2.1.2, Level A*)
  • Visible focus during keyboard navigation may be impacted in isolated cases. (WCAG 2.4.7, Level AA)

For users with cognitive difficulties

  • The mobile menu "hamburger" icon is not marked up as a <button> element with a proper aria-label, which may affect users of voice control and screen readers. (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2, Level A)
  • Content shown on hover does not always trigger the same state on keyboard focus, e.g. dropdown menus in the main navigation. (WCAG 1.4.13, Level AA)
  • Inline form validation uses the browser's built-in validation. The aria-invalid="true" attribute is not currently set in the code, which may make error messages harder for screen reader users to perceive. (WCAG 3.3.1, Level A)

Spacing and responsiveness

  • The ability to increase character, word and line spacing to WCAG levels is technically supported, but edge cases may occur on individual sub-pages. (WCAG 1.4.12, Level AA)
  • Content visually hidden behind expandable components is not always hidden via aria-hidden for screen readers. (WCAG 1.1.1, Level A)

Status messages

  • Status messages on positive outcome (e.g. successful form submission) are not always marked with role="status" or aria-live="polite". Remediation is planned. (WCAG 4.1.3, Level A)

How this statement was prepared

This statement is based on a structured audit of the website against 96 accessibility criteria (WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA, with additional Swedish criteria from the Public Employment Service's accessibility checklist). The review covers both automated testing and manual verification using keyboard, screen reader, and browser developer tools.
